[Return to Daggerworld] Hunter updates??


Hi everyone!

Slowly, slowly, chipping away at an adventure one-shot. We're in the testing phase now where I throw the adventure at my local players and they hate me for it!

In extensive testing we're finding the Hunter to be underperforming. It's certainly a more "thinking person's" sort of class, where clever folk will probably have fun coming up with creative ways to use their kit, but there are a few problems:

  • They don't have a strongly defined "fantasy"
  • They're basically a tongue-in-cheek version of the Blood Hunter
  • The Blood Hunter is coming out for Daggerheart anyway

With that in mind, I'm considering a Hunter rework. I would likely keep the default Hunter around as a free PDF on this page (but with some polish), for anyone who still likes them, while re-thinking what the Hunter should be.

Originally, the Hunter (in my mind) was to occupy a space similar to the Warden in D&D 5E. The Warden was an additional class that was something like a controller-druid-tank. You could be a giant tree that moved other enemies around and restrict movement. This would work with the Mystery Domain's secondary focus on controller effects and non-lethal takedown.
